The Principals:

VOLKER ENGEL


Before co-founding Uncharted Territory, LLC, Volker Engel served as Supervisor for "Godzilla" and for "Independence Day", for which he received the Academy Award for best Visual Effects. Previously, Engel was VFX Supervisor for Roland Emmerich's "Moon 44" and Miniature FX Supervisor for "Universal Soldier". Before coming to the United States, Engel worked on several European feature films, commercials and TV movies, including "Schlafes Bruder" and "Der Letzte Kosmonaut".

His awards include the Academy Award (Oscar), Saturn Award and Sci-Fi Universe Award for "Independence Day", Saturn Award for "Godzilla" and a British Academy (BAFTA) Award nomination for "Independence Day". Mr.Engel also received the "Order of Merit" ("Bundesverdienstkreuz") from the Federal Republic of Germany.

His publications include "The Art of Visual Effects" (with Pauline Rogers) – Focal Press, "The Making of Godzilla" (with Rachel Aberly) – Harper Prism and "The Making of Independence Day" (with Rachel Aberly) – Harper Prism. Volker Engel is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the British Academy for Film and Television Arts, The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Visual Effects Society.

 

 

MARC WEIGERT


Before co-founding Uncharted Territory, LLC, Marc Weigert co-founded the visual effects company Dreamscape Imagery Inc. with his wife Stacey. Opened in 1995, their credits include "Independence Day", "Muppets From Space", "Flubber", "The Drew Carey Show", "Seven Days To Live" and many European movies and TV series.

As the VFX Project Manager for "Independence Day", Weigert created "Digital Assistant for Visual Effects", a VFX project management software program. Later, he sold the software to most major studios and to individual supervisors and producers. Since then it has been used on many feature films including "Stuart Little", "Alien: Resurrection", "Flubber", "Volcano", "Godzilla", "Wing Commander", "Monkeybone", "Bless the Child", and "X-Men", as well as on TV movies and series, and has since been purchased by Creative Planet. Weigert also developed a VFX scheduling board system in association with Hollywood Production Boards. Weigert studied directing and producing film at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

He produced various commercials and films in Germany, which won multiple awards, including the "Deutscher Videokunstpreis 1993" ("German Video Art Award 1993"), the highest German video award, "Prädikat wertvoll" and the "Prix Futura". He won the Emmy Award in 2006 for the mini-series "The Triangle". Marc Weigert is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Visual Effects Society.
